The East Grinstead practice has been established for over 8 years and has received more than 10,000 referrals from approximately 200 dentists. We would welcome a very close working relationship with all our referring general practitioners. We are always happy to discuss treatment plans and treatment progress.

I am always very happy to jointly plan the management of severe restorative cases where one may need to move teeth to facilitate the provision of dentures or bridges.

Dr. McCance uses a well 'tried and tested' arch development technique for mild to moderate class I and class II crowded cases in the late mixed dentition. This technique uses expansion labial segment appliances (Elsa Plates) with orthopaedics by the use of functional appliances, followed by the utilisation of upper and lower fixed braces.

The practice is particularly concerned about maintaining a good face as well as well aligned dental arches. We would respectfully ask that all prospective orthodontic cases are referred at an early age, ideally 7-8yrs. This time of referral does allow us to embark on orthopaedics at an ideal time. The practice tries very hard to avoid extractions wherever possible.

We also try to minimise the use of headgear and try to make the treatment protocols easily followed by the patients. We also feel very strongly there is a need for the routine use of space maintenance devices as the work of Prof. Gianelly in the United States has shown that these appliances can save some 2mm to 3mm of space which would then minimise the need for extractions.

We provide a standard referral pad for your convenience. We are always available at the end of a telephone or by writing to discuss any individual cases with colleagues. We are also very happy to attend colleagues' clinics to discuss joint management of cases in the private sector relating to complex periodontal or restorative problems. We accept referrals by post, fax or by Email.

Timing of referrals

We would respectfully request that all patients with any doubt about the lower jaw development should be referred at the age of 7yrs. by their own family dentist. At this initial consultation, a panoramic OPT radiograph would be taken and we would try and identify any inherent problems.

Transfer Cases
